Molecular and Cellular Biology is an interdisciplinary graduate training program in the fields of biotechnology and bioinformatics. We offer Ph.D. degrees focusing on developing the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to succeed in academic, clinical, industrial or government organizations.

Stephen studies the physiology and metabolism of SAR11 bacteria, the most abundant group of bacteria in the world that are ubiquitous in the world's oceans. When not in the Giovannoni lab, Stephen enjoys doing alcohol ink art, hiking, and enjoying life with his wife, Tamara, and soon to be born child.
Sarah is investigating the molecular markers distinguishing myofibers types under the co-advising of Drs. Theresa Filtz and Chrissa Kioussi. Sarah is originally from California and enjoys drawing in her spare time.
Michael works with Steve Strauss (FES) and Jared LeBoldus (BPP/FERM) on developing host-induced gene silencing technology in hybrid poplar against the leaf-spot and stem-canker pathogen Sphaerulina musiva. He spends his free time playing old-time mandolin and fiddle.
Bach’s research focuses on the roles of the transcription factor AhR in lung cancer in the lab of Dr. Siva K. Kolluri. Before arriving at OSU, he worked at the Center for Molecular Biomedicine at University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City for five years and trained at the Molecular Pathology Laboratory at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
Brian is investigating the essential role of Vitamin E needed for zebrafish neurodevelopment in the Traber Lab of the Linus Pauling Institute. Outside of the lab, Brian enjoys running around Corvallis with his dog Bohdie.
Brian’s research interests center on the intersection between agricultural biotechnology and artificial intelligence. They work on the development and testing of methods for high-throughput hyperspectral imaging and image analysis, and the use of these methods to aid discovery of Populus trichocarpa genes controlling the ability of plants to undergo regeneration in vitro.
Nedd8 dysregulation has been implicated in the pathologies of aging, cancer, and protein degradation/misfolding disorders. Kartikeya works on the role of the Ubiquitin like protein (UBL) NEDD8 on protein degradation and the subsequent generation of peptides for MCH1 presentation. Specifically, Kartikeya is trying to find if the direct conjugation of NEDD8 to targets accelerates their degradation or changes their tertiary structure, by causing them to misfold.
